National Commission for Women (NCW) & Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad organized the 99th programme to orient women towards entrepreneurship as a career.

Asholi Chalai, Hon’ble Joint Secretary, National Commission for Women and Shri. Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS, Deputy Commissioner/CEO (LAHDC), Kargil were also present at the occasion.
  • So far EDII has trained 5744 Women across India, as a part of the association

July 1, 2024: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW) has undertaken the National Project of organizing 100 Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs) for potential women entrepreneurs across the country to orient women to the benefits of adopting entrepreneurship as a career and overcome social, economic, and familial barriers to become entrepreneurs.

The 99th Programme was organized at NIELIT, Kargil with the support from National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT)

Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble Chairman / Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC – Kargil was the Chief Guest for the Kargil EAP Programme. The Guest of Honour was Shri. A. Asholi Chalai, Hon’ble Joint Secretary, National Commission for Women and Shri. Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS, Deputy Commissioner/CEO (LAHDC), Kargil were also present at the occasion.

The aim of the EAP is to orient participating women to the benefits of adopting entrepreneurship as a career, learn the finer skills and overcome social, economic, and familial barriers to becoming entrepreneurs. The Kargil EAP aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills among women so that they could gain knowledge, skills and motivation to build their own businesses. After the inauguration, the sessions and panel discussions were organized where experts deliberated on topics such as the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, identifying business opportunities, cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, strategies to overcome challenges commonly faced by women, understanding gender specific issues and challenges, and information on government schemes and policies for women business owners.

Chief Guest Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, said, “Entrepreneurship offers a ray of hope for economic empowerment, especially for women in areas like Kargil. These women possess tremendous potential and resilience. Through this initiative, our objective is to provide them with the tools and knowledge to overcome challenges and thrive as entrepreneurs. Promising opportunities are available in tourism, handicrafts, and other emerging sectors. Alongside the support of the National Commission for Women and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, we are dedicated to offering legal assistance, ensuring these women achieve economic independence and enhance their social standing.

Shri. A. Asholi Chalai said, “This collaborative effort between the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India represents a crucial stride in unlocking the latent entrepreneurial potential within Ladakh’s women. By equipping them with essential skills and knowledge, we aim to catalyze economic growth and enhance the socio-economic landscape of our region. I am confident that this initiative will pave the path for numerous thriving enterprises led by women in Ladakh, fostering comprehensive community development.

Moreover, NCW is actively promoting initiatives to empower women across the country, encouraging them to establish their enterprises and achieve financial independence even before marriage.

Shri. Shrikant Balasaheb Suse said, “This initiative presents a unique chance for Ladakh’s women to delve into entrepreneurship as a promising career choice. The training and knowledge imparted through this program will be instrumental in empowering them to unleash their capabilities, innovate, and bolster the economic vitality of our region. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the constructive influence this initiative will bring to our community. Additionally, the UT Administration stands committed to providing unwavering support to aspiring women entrepreneurs in Ladakh.”
