AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 14th AUGUST 2026 | Renowned spine surgeon Dr. Tarak Patel was honoured with the Gujarat Vikas Asmita Award 2026 by the Knowledge Plus Foundation (KPF) in Ahmedabad. The award, conferred by former Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Narhari Amin, was presented in recognition of Dr. Patel’s contribution to healthcare and his efforts to combine medical expertise with service, compassion and social responsibility.
Dr. Patel has over 6,000 successful spine surgeries to his credit and has complemented his professional expertise with a strong commitment to making quality spine care accessible to patients from economically weaker sections of society. He has been actively associated with The Spine Foundation, established by his mentor, Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj, and regularly contributes his specialised surgical expertise to free spine camps and surgical programmes.
As part of these initiatives, Dr. Patel has provided his services at centres in Dharampur and Bhachau in Gujarat, as well as at camps organised in various parts of the country, including Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. He has contributed to providing modern and quality spine care to hundreds of patients in need through these initiatives.
At Indospine Hospital, Ahmedabad, Dr. Patel follows a patient-first approach, particularly towards patients facing financial constraints. Patients from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are offered treatment at substantially reduced rates, while on several occasions, surgeries have also been performed completely free of cost.
Commenting on the honour, Dr. Tarak Patel said, “I am deeply honoured to receive the Gujarat Vikas Asmita Award. I have always believed that healthcare is not just a profession but also a responsibility. If my skills and experience can help a patient, particularly when financial circumstances make it difficult, I consider that an important part of my work. I am grateful to KPF for recognising this commitment.”
Dr. Patel has also contributed to charitable initiatives through art. He participated in an exhibition organised by The Spine Foundation, where he displayed his paintings to support the Foundation’s efforts to raise funds for its charitable activities.
