HCG Aastha Cancer Centre Hosts Landmark GI Oncology Meet, Unveiling Cutting-Edge Advances in Treatment

GUJARAT, AHMEDABAD | 29th AUGUST 2025: The 6th Mid Year GI Oncology Conference concluded successfully at Field Marshal K M Kariappa Auditorium, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre, bringing together leading surgical oncologists, Gastrointestinal and Hepato Pancreatic and Biliary surgeons, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Genetic counsellors, radiologists, interventional radiologists, molecular pathologists, nutritionists, researchers, residents, and students from across India. Over two days, the conference hosted a comprehensive scientific program featuring cutting-edge lectures, debates, panel discussions, and case-based sessions across colorectal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic oncology.

Highlights of the conference included discussions on ct DNA for deciding treatment in early colon cancer and to monitor the progress after chemotherapy. Use of safe & precise radiation therapy in rectal cancer to prevent toxicities and avoid a permanent colostomy, evolving surgical approaches in colorectal malignancies, the role of radiation in gallbladder cancer, borderline resectable pancreatic cancers, oligometastatic disease management, robotics in colorectal surgery, newer drugs including immunotherapy and practice-changing updates in GI oncology. The academic feast was enriched with lively debates, expert commentaries, and an interactive oncology quiz that engaged young oncologists and residents. The conference was attended by over 160 delegates and faculty.

The conference was made possible by the relentless efforts of the Organising chairmen , Dr Jagdish Kothari, Director and Chief- GI, HPB & Robotic Surgical Oncologist at HCG Aastha Cancer Centre and Dr Shirish Alurkar, Head of the department and Senior Consultant, Department of Medical Oncology,at HCG Aastha Cancer Centre and the organising secretaries Dr Samir Batham, Senior Consultant in the Department of Radiation Oncology, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre,Dr Devendra Parikh and Dr Bharat Prajapati (Senior Consultants and Robotic Surgeons GI – Surgical Oncology), HCG Aastha Cancer Centre.

The overwhelming participation of faculty, residents, students, and industry partners reinforced the growing spirit of collaboration in the GI oncology community. The 6th edition has set yet another benchmark in academic excellence, paving the way for future innovations and partnerships in the fight against gastrointestinal cancers.

Such conferences not only enhance the knowledge of oncologists, but also help in delivering precise treatment to patients leading to better outcomes.
