Gujarat has emerged as one of India’s frontrunners in promoting green buildings and sustainable urban development. With over 1100 IGBC-registered green building projects spanning residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors, the state has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Key urban centres like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara are seeing increasing adoption of IGBC-rated projects, reflecting a growing awareness among developers and policymakers.
Ahmedabad 6th June 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry Indian Green Building Council (CII IGBC), in partnership with the Urban Development & Housing Department, Government of Gujarat, successfully concluded the 2nd edition of the Green Gujarat Summit 2025 at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Ahmedabad. Themed “Advancing Net Zero: Pioneering A Greener Gujarat”, the event emerged as Gujarat’s largest and most impactful platform dedicated to green buildings and sustainable urban development.
Bringing together more than 350 stakeholders from across the real estate, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability sectors, the summit focused on charting a robust roadmap for Gujarat’s leadership in India’s net-zero transition. The event witnessed active participation from architects, developers, government officials, sustainability officers, technology providers, and ESG leaders.
The inaugural session was graced by Shri D J Jadeja, IAS, Secretary (Housing), Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, Government of Gujarat who also delivered the special addressemphasizing the government’s commitment to building sustainable and resilient cities across Gujarat. Other distinguished leaders also included Mr. Shekhar Patel, National President, CREDAI and Managing Director, Ganesh Housing Corp, Ltd; Mr. Jayesh Hariyani, Chairman, IGBC Ahmedabad Chapter and Sr Principal, CMD, INI Design Studio; Mr. Sameer Sinha, Immediate Past Chairman, IGBC Ahmedabad Chapter and Managing Director, Savvy Group; Mr. Gurmit Singh Arora, Immediate Past National Chairman, IGBC and Managing Director, Rajco Group; Mr. Premraj Keshyep, Chairman, CII Gujarat State Council andChairman & MD, KYB – Conmat Pvt Ltd; and Mr.Taral Shah, Co-Chair, IGBC Ahmedabad Chapter.
Delivering the special address, Shri D J Jadeja, IAS, Secretary (Housing), Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, Government of Gujarat, said, “The Government of Gujarat has taken a decisive step by mandating all its buildings to be green, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. To accelerate this transition and build truly climate-resilient cities, it is essential for the government, real estate developers, and academic institutions to collaborate and innovate together.”
The Government of Gujarat has actively championed green construction, energy efficiency, and integrated urban planning through progressive policies and institutional support. Key agencies like GUDC and GUDM have been instrumental in advancing sustainable infrastructure, while initiatives promoting net-zero energy and water use, climate-resilient design, and renewable energy integration have positioned the state as a leader in sustainable urban development. Backed by strong public-private collaboration and visionary leadership, Gujarat is steadily advancing toward becoming a net-zero, climate-resilient state—making a significant contribution to India’s broader sustainability goals.
Mr. Premraj Keshyep, Chairman, CII Gujarat State Council in his address said, “The CII Gujarat State Council has been actively promoting sustainable practices across all sectors. We believe that the transition to net-zero buildings is not just an environmental imperative but also an economic opportunity. Our member companies are increasingly recognizing that sustainable practices lead to reduced operational costs through energy efficiency, enhanced property values and marketability, improved occupant health and productivity, greater resilience to climate change impacts, and compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.”
Mr. Shekhar Patel, National President, CREDAI while addressing the summit said, “The future of real estate lies in creating spaces that are not just smart and efficient, but also sustainable, inclusive, and resilient for decades to come.”
A key highlight of the Green Gujarat Summit 2025 was the felicitation of IGBC-certified green building projects, underscoring the state’s ongoing efforts toward environmentally conscious development.
Mr. Gurmit Singh Arora, Immediate Past National Chairman, IGBC, said “Decarbonizing our built environment is no longer a choice—it is the cornerstone of India’s climate leadership and our collective responsibility to future generations.”
The Summit featured a dynamic lineup of technical sessions, panel discussions, and workshops focused on driving Gujarat’s transition to a net-zero and climate-resilient future. Experts and industry leaders came together to discuss cutting-edge themes such as net-zero architecture, climate-resilient infrastructure, low-carbon construction materials, and corporate sustainability strategies.
Mr. Jayesh Hariyani, Chairman, IGBC AhmedabadChapter while delivering the address said, “The built environment is at the heart of climate action. Through the IGBC Green Gujarat Summit, we aim to scale innovations in net-zero architecture, material efficiency, and climate-resilient design that redefine sustainability for the state and the nation.”
Key highlights included discussions on decarbonization in construction using glass and steel, retrofitting strategies integrated with Building Information Modelling (BIM), and a panel led by Chief Sustainability Officers. A dedicated training programme for government officials further strengthened grassroots capacity for implementing green building policies. The sessions offered actionable insights and reinforced Gujarat’s leadership in sustainable urban development.

In line with the summit’s objectives, IGBC emphasized four key pillars: promoting net-zero buildings, showcasing green infrastructure for climate resilience, advancing knowledge on low-carbon materials and circular economy, and strengthening Gujarat’s position as a national leader in sustainable development.
